The Importance of Freshness |
When our parents first opened a fresh can of Folgers Coffee, it had a pleasing aroma. After a few uses, the fragrance wasn't quite the same.
Why? Because exposure to air is roasted coffee's worst enemy.
Since then, many of us have discovered the difference of buying whole coffee beans, grinding them up just before we brew and tasting the difference.
Yet even whole beans, if exposed to excess air, lose their aroma. In fact, beans begin to lose their freshness within only seven hours after roasting! If left open and on their own, they will become completely stale within about 10 days. Special packaging, such as foil bags and de-gassing valves, help to keep the beans fresher for a longer period of time. But not forever!
A problem arises when we buy coffee beans in larger quanities than we will use in a ten-day to two-week time period. Once the package is opened, the air again begins to do it's damage. If you buy a two pound bag but take a month to use it, your coffee isn't going to taste all that great toward the bottom of the bag.
At Bippy's, we have a solution. We roast coffee beans fresh daily. We use foil bags with degassing valves. Our 12 oz. and 1 pound bags have a ziplock. So you can more effectively keep the beans airtight between uses.
We encourage our customers to purchase an amount of beans that they will use up within just a couple of weeks. For your convenience, we will even deliver beans to your home or office!
Is there really a difference between fresh roasted and not so fresh roasted coffee? We compare it to baked cookies. Exposure to air is a cookie's worst enemy. Cookie manufactures carefully package their cookies in airtight packages for the consumer to buy at the store. They really arn't that bad! But if you compare any packaged cookie on the shelf to a homemade, fresh out of the oven cookie, there is no comparison which is the best.
It's the same with coffee.

Bippy’s Coffee is NOW OPEN! We are located in Boise, just west of Five Mile Road on Fairview Ave. Our address is 10804 W. Fairview Ave. Hours are 7:00am to 6:00 pm Monday through Saturday. We are closed on Sunday. Sometimes we are open until 9:00 for live music. Call us if you would like to drop in after 6:00pm to ensure we are open. Our phone number is 208-424-7670.
Although Bippy's has the appearance of "just another coffee bar" we do have some differences. We roast our own coffee beans right in the store. This allows us to provide to you the freshest roasted coffee in the Boise area. We like to compare fresh roasted coffee beans to cookies. Sure, you can buy cookies off the shelf in stores and they taste pretty good, but they are nothing compared to mom's fresh baked cookies out of the oven. Similarly, you can buy coffee off the shelves in stores and even in your local coffee bar. But have you ever stopped to think how old those coffee beans are? Few roasters place the date their beans were roasted on the packaging. Bippy's does. Our goal is to sell, deliver or ship our beans withing three days of roasting.
Speaking of delivery, Bippy's also delivers fresh coffee beans around the Treasure Valley directly to your home or office. If you are interested in this service, please click on "contact us", let us know about your interest and we will quickly accomodate you. Fresh Coffee Beans (whole or ground) can also be purchased inside our coffee bar.
Bippy's is a locally owned coffee bar (not a franchise), that provides an escape from the daily grind where people can go to relax, work, study or chat with a friend, while sipping delicious gourmet coffee or espresso drinks. We also offer iced or blended coffee drinks and smoothies.
We welcome small meetings of up to twelve people. If you are part of a club or committee, consider coming to Bippy's for your next meeting. If you have a group of seven or more people, you may want to call ahead in case another group may be meeting at the same time.
In addition to fresh roasted coffee and great espresso and tea beverages, Bippy's has a great selection of pastries and desserts for your appetite. We also have bagels and even quiche available. We also do cake decoratiing. Surprise a friend or relative with one of our adorable Itty Bitty Bippy Cakes or order a cake for a special occasion such as an anniversary or even a wedding cake! We can copy just about any design you can come up with.
Bippy's also has a nice selection of mugs and traveler mugs as well as gift baskets and gift cards.
